Gammon Construction wins contract on West Kowloon stretch of Guangzhon to Hong Kong Express Rail Link

Balfour Beatty’s Hong Kong joint venture has won a £238m contract on a rail link in China.

Gammon Construction, in which Balfour Beatty has a 50% stake, won a deal in the West Kowloon district on a section of the Guangzhon-SHenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link. The line is part of China’s national express rail network.

Balfour Beatty chief executive, Ian Tyler, said: “We are delighted to have such an integral role in the development of this important rail link which will provide Hong Kong with a direct link to the major cities in mainland China.”

Gammon is currently also involved in the West Island Line which, when complete in 2014, will extend the existing Island Line from Sheung Wan to Kennedy Town.
