Council records reveal details of payment to Bath and North East Somerset Council by Carillion and Nicholas Grimshaw

Council accounts have revealed that the Bath Spa cost Carillion and Nicholas Grimshaw £7m in compensation.

Figures revealed by the Bath Chronicle show a total figure of £6.96m was paid to Bath and North East Somerset Council after several botches on the high-profile job. Both Carillion and Nicholas Grimshaw settled out of court with the council and the payment was kept confidential.

The spa was greatly delayed, having originally been scheduled for a 2002 opening, but not actually opening until 2006. At £45m the project ended up being £13m over budget.

The work was carried out by Mowlem, which was bought by Carillion in 2006.
