ALUMINIUM CURTAIN WALLING SOLUTION

Specifier products

Wicona has supplied its aluminium Wictec 50 curtain walling solution for the Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, venue for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The Wictec system was specified to accommodate large unsupported spans of glass of up to 4m long.

The curtain walling was faceted for the velodrome to follow the curve of the building and was used with curved bull nose caps to add interest to the facade by accentuating the horizontal profiles.

WALL TIES

ancon

Ancon has introduced its new Staifix RT2 275mm wall tie, which the company says is designed to meet the growing demand for wider insulated wall cavities in multi-storey housing and commercial buildings. The firm claims that it is currently the only Type 2 wire wall tie available for cavity widths between 126mm and 150mm, suitable for buildings up to 15m high as standard, and taller structures subject to calculation.

Ancon adds the RT2 275mm wall tie offers thermal and cost benefits over Type 1 flat ties and Type 3 double-triangle style ties of the same length. The Staifix RT2 275mm wall tie is supplied packaged in boxes of 250 ties.

CLADDING SUPPORT SYSTEM

prods

RigiSystems has introduced CladFrame, a new cladding/facade support system, which features a cladding rail support bracket that has been engineered to provide a universal solution to facades. The company says that the design of the bracket makes it stronger than other similar solutions, enabling fewer brackets to be used, making the system faster and more economical to install.

Two clips at the extremities of the bracket allow for simple positioning of the carrier rails prior to levelling and fixing. CladFrame brackets are made from 3mm thick structural grade aluminium and, if required, come complete with an integral bonded isolation pad in order to provide a thermal break between the building substructure and the facade system.

MODERN FACING BRICKS

Edenhall has launched the Contemporary Collection, a range of modern facing concrete bricks, which the company says creates clean, minimalist elevations and brickwork details that can either blend in with the vernacular or offer a unique aesthetic.

The bricks are available in shades from white and cream to grey, blue and green, and in a range of smooth, sand textured and weathered finishes. The firm claims that the bricks offer excellent colour and weathering characteristics, as well as the technical benefits of concrete. The company also says that the manufacturing process ensures dimensional accuracy and sharp arrises.

INSULATED PANEL SYSTEM

kingpsan

Kingspan’s KS1000 LS LongspanTM insulated panel system was specified to help create the look of a curved feature for a new Waitrose store at Kings Hill, near Maidstone.

The store was built on the site of a former airfield next to the original control tower, which is listed, so the architects incorporated a mock tower to the front elevation of the store to reflect this structure.

The clean lines required for the design were achieved using Micro-Ribbed Kingspan KS1000 LS LongspanTM. 860m2 of the Kingspan LongspanTM insulated wall panels in a 120mm thickness were installed.

The firm says the curved panels were chosen so that the cladding on the mock tower matched the main building cladding.
