Patsy Byrne, chief executive and co-founder of concrete frame contractor Byrne Bros has died.

Byrne passed away at the weekend unexpectedly.

The firm he founded with his brother Johnny in 1969 has been involved in a wide range of high-profile construction projects including the Heron Tower, the 2012 Olympic stadium and the Lakeside shopping centre.

Patsy Byrne was also known for his love of horse and greyhound racing and owned a number of champion race horses.

“Patsy was an immense character who touched the hearts and minds of everyone he came into contact with. He built the Byrne Group of companies into one of the most robust and respected businesses in its specialist fields in UK construction. He will be very sadly missed.”
