Consultant Capita has won a £3m contract to support the delivery of a £50m programme of energy efficiency retrofits across London.

Under the contract Capita will provide funding, technical and procurement advisory services to the Mayor of London’s Re:New programme, which funds improvements to the homes of social housing providers, local authorities and private homeowners.

The scheme is set to improve 175,000 homes over the next three years.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said the “vital” investment would enable his office to “help boroughs transform some of the poorest quality council estates and social housing in need of urgent repair”.

He added: “Many families are also rightly concerned at the cost of their energy bills so I’m delighted to be able to put in place a programme of energy-saving measures for homes across the capital. This will result in renovations that lower energy bills for thousands of residents.”

John Alker, director of policy at the UK Green Building Council, said the programme would be a “boost for the capital’s green housing ambitions”.
