Architect wins design competition to redevelop Elizabeth House next to Waterloo station
David Chipperfield Architects has beaten Grimshaw and Hopkins in the competition to redevelop Elizabeth House in Waterloo.
The practice has been appointed by London & Regional Properties and Chelsfield Partners after a design competition. The development will create a new “heart” for Waterloo and the South Bank as well as a new public realm that will allow “permeability” to Waterloo station.

Former communities secretary Hazel Blears previosuly called in Allies & Morrison’s design for the redevelopment of the dilapidated Elizabeth House, which included 78,500 m2 of offices in two towers of 28 and 22 storeys in height and 280 flats in a 33-storey tower.
