Six storey building aims to capitalise on area’s new transport links
Crossrail has applied for planning permission for a six storey 207,000 sq ft development above its Farringdon station.
The plans, drawn up in conjunction with developer Cardinal Lysander and designed by John Robertson Architects, include six floors of office space and retail units at ground level.
Ian Lindsay, Crossrail land and property director, said: “By 2018 Farringdon will be one of Britain’s busiest rail stations, linking Crossrail, Thameslink and London Underground services. Our proposed developments will accelerate the area’s regeneration, helping Farringdon re-emerge as a destination in its own right.”
Jones Lang LaSalle are also working as development managers on the project.
Meanwhile, a joint venture between contractors Skanska and Costain has won a £40m contract to build and fit out intermediate shafts and headhouses on the Crossrail line at Eleanor Street and Mile End Park.
Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive of Costain, said: “This is our fifth contract with Crossrail and further contributes to the strength of our order book, of which 90% is repeat business.”
Work on the shafts is due to start immediately and will be completed in 2018.
