A team of 200 construction workers worked over Christmas and Boxing Day to move the track of the Docklands Light Railway to clear the way for Crossrail’s Victoria Dock Portal.

The team worked across the festive period to move 420m of track to create space for the portal, construction of which is set to start soon.

In 2014, a tunnel boring machine will start to dig out the tunnel which will connect with the rest of the Crossrail line at Canning Town station.

Bill Tucker, Crossrail area director for the central region, said the work was essential for “a key part of the Crossrail route in east London”.
