Contractor leaps from fifth to first place with 44 contract wins totalling £171m

Willmott Dixon stormed up the contractor table from fifth to first place after landing 44 contracts worth a combined £171m in July.

The firm’s wins included a £20.5m contract for Network Rail to refurbish office block One Puddle Dock next to Blackfriars station, a £19.5m contract to build Islwyn West Secondary school for Caerphilly County Council and an £18.5m contract for the Exeter Met Office.

In second place is Kier with 40 contracts worth £159m. In third place sits Morgan Sindall with a £110m haul of contracts, including a £19.2m contract to build an industrial facility for Rhondda Cynon Taff Borough Council.

Balfour Beatty took fourth place, winning 39 contracts worth £103m over the month, including a £45.4m contract from Highways England for a smart motorway on the M5.

Fifth place goes to ISG, which was awarded 29 contracts worth £102m, one of which is to construct a new building for the business and law faculty at the University of the West of England for £35m.

VolkerWessels UK secured sixth place with six contract wins, including a Rotor Blade factory for Associated British Ports in Hull for £25m and a £21m scheme for the University of Northampton for works that include a bridge, landscaping and car park remodel.

Seventh place goes to Buckingham Group with 11 contract wins in July worth £66m, including an £18m contract for a stadium and hotel for Scunthorpe Football Club and a £25m contract for Network Rail for additional works on the first phase of East West Rail in Bicester.

Bowmer & Kirkland, Mace and Robertson Group round July’s top 10 spots.
