Sir Robert McAlpine won £209m worth of contracts in February, including the £81m job to build the Victoria Gate scheme, which includes a 21,000m² John Lewis store, as well as a retail arcade with 30 stores, restaurants and cafes, a casino and a multi-storey car park.

Sir Robert McAlpine’s contract haul also included a £98m job to build Ronson Capital Partners’ residential development Riverwalk House in Millbank, Westminster.

Breyer Group also shot up the table last month to second place, after picking up a £150m contract haul across four jobs. The firm’s wins included a £110m housing refurbishment contract for Lambeth council, in London, and a £40m regeneration programme for Affinity Sutton.

Morgan Sindall tied for second place with Breyer, with a £150m haul across 34 jobs.

Morgan Sindall’s wins included an £18m commercial job for client Rangeford RAP in Wiltshire and another commercial job, worth £16m, for the Slough Regeneration Partnership.

Overall the CPA/Barbour ABI construction index remained at 109 last month, the same level as January, which represented a fall of 4% on a year ago.

The index, compiled by the Construction Products Association (CPA) using data from construction information provider Barbour ABI, measures contract awards and uses a January 2010 base of 100.

Noble Francis, CPA director, said the February figures showed the impact of the flooding around the country.
