Willmott Dixon edged out Wates to top the contractors’ league table last month, bringing in a £204m contract haul.

Overall the CPA/Barbour ABI construction index hit 133 in June, up from 123 in May - a rise of 8% month-on-month and 12% year-on-year.

The index, compiled by the Construction Products Association (CPA) using data from construction information provider Barbour ABI, measures contract awards and uses a January 2010 base of 100.

Noble Francis, CPA director, said the latest data was “further evidence that the recovery in construction is likely to be sustainable into the medium term”.
