Competition to produce film about sustainable construction is part of Regeneration Film Festival

Ecobuild is set to hit the big screen in 2014 with the launch of a filmmaking competition for built environment professionals. The competition, backed by the RIBA and New London Architecture, will be part of the Regeneration Film Festival produced by designer Henrietta Lynch.

Regeneration is an open-entry short film festival dedicated to the theme of sustainable regeneration and construction. The aim of the festival is to provide an inclusive international show-case for all types of built environment professionals, film-makers, artists, students and school children to show their films/animations about sustainable development and construction. Films are particularly encouraged from the social perspective of development.

Preference will be given to short film entries from two to 30mins in length. The best film will be awarded the Gold Brick award at the Building Awards in April 2014, with selected films shown at Ecobuild 2014.

Outgoing RIBA president Angela Brady said: “The art of architecture via film is a fantastic and fun way to extend the Regeneration message to a wider audience”.

Peter Murray said that New London Architecture is pleased to support the festival. He said: “Film and video is now so accessible to both makers and viewers that it is now by far the most effective medium for disseminating ideas and promoting change.”

New RIBA president Stephen Hodder added: “I believe this will be an inspirational event that works to link different facets of the built environment design professions - I am really looking forward to the event and seeing the competition entries.”

The judges are as follows:

  • Stephen Hodder - president of the RIBA
  • Chris Brown - Igloo Regeneration
  • Henrietta Lynch - Regeneration Film Festival
  • Linda Clark - Westminster University
  • Mike Yorke - Upside Films
  • Jeremy Till - head of Central St. Martins
