More than 25 MPs have signed up to an early day motion in parliament expressing support for Building’s Green for Growth campaign.

The motion, tabled by former communities minister Andrew Stunell and Tory MP Zac Goldsmith last week, “congratulates Building magazine on its Green for Growth campaign, supported by many […] in the construction sector”.

It also “urges the government now to press forward urgently on announcing further energy performance upgrades to building standards”.

The motion has been backed by 27 MPs so far, including former Liberal Democrat leader Ming Campbell and Conservative MP Peter Bottomley.

The political support comes after Tory peer John Gummer, the chair of the committee on climate change and former environment secretary, backed the campaign.

Building’s Green for Growth campaign has more than 200 pledges of support from the industry.
