Berkeley Group, major housebuilders and contractors all secure places

Twenty five housebuilders, contractors and housing associations have won a place on a £5bn framework to build out homes in London.

The London Development Panel, announced by the Greater London Authority (GLA) this week, includes housebuilders Berkeley, Barratt, Bellway, Taylor Wimpey and Redrow, as well as 10 contractors, including Carillion, Kier, Galliford Try, Bouygues, Lend Lease and Wates.

However, the panel, which is the London version of the Homes and Communities Agency’s £4bn Delivery Partner Panel (DPP) does not include contractors Laing O’Rourke and Skanska, both of which had places on earlier versions.

Laing O’Rourke and Skanska also lost their places on the DPP, as revealed by Building last month, which was dominated by major housebuilders.

Housing associations selected for the London panel include Places for People, Affinity Sutton, Catalyst, and London Quadrant.

The GLA said the framework, which will allow it to more quickly selected development and construction partners on projects on public land, would enable it to speed up the release of public land for housing.

Land will be offered on a “build now, pay later” basis, the GLA said.

Publication of the panel has been delayed for over a month, with bidders not given a reason for the delay.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said the panel would serve “as a one-stop shop for public land owners in the capital, making it quicker, easier and cheaper for them to bring their land forward for development”.

“The demand for housing in the capital is reaching unprecedented levels making the potential for development on public land far too important to ignore,” he said.

The panel runs for four years from this month.
