The role of engineers in constructing the Olympic Park and its infrastructure has been celebrated in a new film.

The film, which has already been viewed by almost 9,000 people on YouTube, has been produced by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) London and the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).

It features interviews with the key ODA directors and engineers involved in the design and construction of the park as well as time lapse footage and fly throughs showing the Olympic Park site before construction and right up to its completion.

ICE London regional director, Miranda Housden, said: “Millions of people will be tuning in to see the extraordinary sporting talent the Olympic Games offer and following the progress of team GB. But it’s great to know that thousands are also keen to learn more about how the Olympic venues and facilities were delivered on time, safely and within budget - including the waste, transport, energy and water infrastructure.

“ICE London has been working with the ODA’s Learning Legacy for three years creating a range of online lectures and information for civil engineers - a project which has been hugely rewarding and which led to the creation of this special film which captures both the challenges and successes of the project and shares the knowledge of those involved.

“London 2012 is a credit to our industry, and our film, interactive map, archive of recorded lectures and other resources will enable us to ensure a long, far-reaching legacy to inspire the next generation of civil engineers.”
