About Building
What is Building?
Building, a weekly title, is the UK’s oldest and best-read construction magazine. It was launched in 1843 by Joseph Aloysius Hansom – architect of Birmingham Town Hall and designer of the hansom safety cab – and once counted Prince Albert, Charles Dickens and Florence Nightingale among its readers.
The magazine is read by over 125,000 professionals throughout the building industry, including building contractors, housebuilders, architects, quantity surveyors and building surveyors.
Our award-winning magazine
Over the past few years, the high calibre of Building’s journalism has been honoured by both the construction industry and the magazine world. In 2006 Building became the construction industry’s best-selling weekly and achieved record subscriptions in the ABC audit. Building was named Subscription Magazine of the Year for b2b titles at the PPA Magazine Subscription Awards and Building’s Emily Wright and Sarah Richardson triumphed in the 2006 PTC New Journalist of the Year awards. Building also picked up the new web award for www.building.co.uk at the 2006 International Building Press journalism awards.
Our readership
Building has the highest number of subscribers in the construction press. According to ABC, its latest audited circulation in the UK for the year to June 2006, is 25,017.
The reason for Building’s success is revealed in the latest independent readership research carried out by TNS, published in 2005. Building was rated the best-read magazine in construction.
