Greater London authority inviting bids to be on London Development Panel

A framework to deliver construction of new homes in the capital will procure up to £5bn of work in the next four years, according to the Greater London Authority.

The procurement of the framework, called the London Development Panel and revealed by Building last month, will see between 20-28 firms recruited to build homes on public land in the capital.

The £5bn figure is a huge increase in the estimate of the value of work to be procured through the panel, for which equivalents are also being set up in other English regions. The Homes and Communities Agency, which is running the procurement process elsewhere in the country, said in March that £5bn would be the total value of work across England.

The GLA today said that in addition to its housing agency, London’s boroughs, government departments and other public land owners will all be able to use the panel. Potential suppliers, to include housebuilders, contractors and developers, need to complete and return a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire by the 4th May 2011. Invitations to Tender will be issued in the Autumn with contracts awarded to successful bidders by 1st April 2013.

The panels, which will run from January 2013, will replace the three existing Delivery Partner Panels, through which up to 24,000 homes have been procured since 2010.
