Chief executive moves company towards providing ‘end-to-end’ service as part of growth push

The chief executive of £170m-turnover Miller Construction has laid out plans to generate up to a quarter of the firm’s revenue from construction services rather than contracting.

Chris Webster said Miller Construction will offer “end-to-end” construction services as part of a growth push designed to triple the firm’s turnover between now and 2016.

Webster said the services would include consultancy advice on issues such as energy management and programme management at the front end of the construction process, and asset and facilities management for clients post-construction.

However, Webster, who came to Miller in 2010 from infrastructure and services giant Amey, said the firm was not intending to ape the big services players such as Serco in bidding for major outsourcing contracts. “I believe we can do a better job by bolting on good advice to clients and asset management and facilities management.

“Our core offering is construction. But to get to 25% of our turnover from services is a nice aspiration.”

Webster is targeting £600m turnover by 2015, growing the services business to as much as £150m. He said he would sell services to clients of the core construction offering but not exclusively.
