Mipim mega schemes unveiled

This year’s Mipim boasts exhibitions on a number of mega projects – architectural schemes for entire cities and urban neighbourhoods in Europe and further afield.

Here, we take a look at four of the key projects being showcased at the 2012 property fair:

East Village, UK

The 2012 Olympic Village in ‘legacy mode’, the East Village scheme by developer QDD - a joint venture between Qatari Diar, Delancey and Triathlon Homes - will be located in a new E20 London postcode and will initially deliver 2,818 new homes, ready to be occupied in 2013.

In addition to 1,439 private homes mainly available to rent, there will be 1,379 affordable homes for rent or sale.

Apartments have been designed by a wide range of up-and-coming architects including DSDHA, Make, Piercy Connor and Glenn Howells.

Europa City, France

Europa City, an 80ha regeneration proposal in the north-east of the Greater Paris region and Grand Roissy, will provide a mix of commercial, hotel, leisure and cultural facilities including a contemporary circus, concert halls, a large hall for art exhibitions, a space dedicated to gastronomy and a residence for young designers.

The project has been developed by Groupe Auchan and masterminded by its real estate business Immochan. A multi-disciplinary consultant team is headed by Parisian architect Manuelle Gautrand along with Norway-based Snohetta, French firm Valode et Pistre and Danish architect BIG.

Models of their work will be exhibited publicly for the first time at MIPIM.

Skolkovo City, Russia

The Skolkovo project, planned in a district of Moscow, is almost a city within a city: a 400 ha community masterplanned to meet every need, from business to education, from research to residential, according to its backers.

The area has already been subject to intense redevelopment including British architect David Adjaye’s striking new International Business School.

The scheme showcased at Mipim encourages cycling and walking and is intended to further reduce its environmental impact through its proximity to central Moscow.

Primanti, India

Primanti is a new residential area in Gurgaon, an Indian city to the southeast of New Delhi with one of the most rapid rates of growth in the country.

Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) and developed by steel giant Tata’s housing development company, it will create 1,060 housing units spread over a set of distinct areas including parks and urban spaces and amenities.

The project is also divided into housing types such as luxury apartments, tower blocks and villas.

Designed to specifications laid down by the Indian Council for Green Building, the project delivers environmental solutions suited to the local climate according to KPF and Tata.
