Ex-HSBC man becomes head of government infrastructure body

The Treasury has appointed a new chief executive for Infrastructure UK.

Geoffrey Spence, who was head of infrastructure at bank HSBC until 2007 and a member of the Treasury’s council of economic advisers from 2008 to 2010, will also be the leading corporate finance practitioner in the Treasury.

Spence replaces Andy Rose, acting chief executive of Infrastructure UK since February, who has left for a new role in the private sector after over six years at Partnerships UK and the Treasury.

The Infrastructure UK Advisory Council, chaired by Paul Skinner, will continue to support and guide the Treasury’s infrastructure work.

Skinner said: “I welcome the increased focus that the Treasury is bringing to the infrastructure agenda, and am delighted to be welcoming someone of Geoffrey Spence’s experience and calibre as chief executive of Infrastructure UK.”
