RICS salary survey finds average quantity surveyor is paid £48,752

Almost 60% of quantity surveyors enjoyed a salary increase last year with an average basic salary of £48,752 and a bonus of £6,836 for the profession, the RICS’ 2013 salary survey has found.

The survey, produced in conjunction with recruitment agency MacDonald & Company, found 57% of quantity surveyors enjoyed a salary increase last year, while only 3% had a decrease.

Of the 1,054 quantity surveyors surveyed, 51% expect a salary increase this year, while only 5% expect a decrease.

Project managers were paid an average of £57,391 over the year and a bonus of £11,252, the survey found.

Of 486 project managers surveyed 53% enjoyed a salary increase, while only 3% had a salary decrease.

More project managers expect a salary increase this year rather than a decrease, with 41% expecting a pay rise and 8% expecting a pay cut.

Across the whole RICS’ survey - which also includes property surveying and other professions - 55% of respondents believe their organisation will increase headcount in 2014.
