A Balfour Beatty road worker killed while working on the M3 motorway in Surrey last Monday has been named by police as Ben Collins, 28.

Collins, from Colchester, died after suffering serious injuries while working on roadworks between junctions 1 and 2 of the M3 near Sunbury between 10.10am and 10.30am on 27 July.

Surrey Police said a post-mortem examination took place on Monday (3 August) and further tests will take place to determine the cause of death.

Surrey Police said it was “continuing to carry out a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive into the circumstances surrounding the death”.

A Balfour Beatty spokesperson said: “On Monday 27th July, Ben Collins, a 28 year old road worker working on our M3 project died as a result of an incident within the roadworks.

“Our deepest sympathies remain with our colleagues family, friends and co-workers at this time.

“We are liaising with Surrey Police and the Health & Safety Executive to help their investigations and while these continue it would not be appropriate to comment further.”
