Almost 100 jobs go as Big Basement Company falls into administration

Underground home-extension specialist the Big Basement Company has gone into administration with the loss of almost 100 jobs.

The west London company, which operated across the capital, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Surrey for more than 10 years, had mainly targeted high net-worth clients.

Paul Ellison and Robert Keyes of RSM Tenon have been appointed as joint administrators.

An RSM Tenon spokesman said many of the Big Basement Company’s clients had “European interests” and that uncertainty over the state of the European economy had led to many projects being placed on hold.

They confirmed that efforts were not being made to sell the business as a going concern.

“Unfortunately we have had no choice but to make 93 people redundant,” they added.
