£250m town centre scheme gets the green light

Architecture practice BDP has won outline planning permission for a £250m revamp of Stevenage town centre.

Proposals include shops and restaurants, offices, a public transport interchange, a magistrates’ court, a hotel, and up to 120 homes.

The scheme will retain the town’s historic town square as a gateway to a new “town centre quarter”.

Cllr Sharon Taylor, leader of Stevenage council, said: “The committee’s decision to grant planning permission for the town centre’s much-needed redevelopment represents a key milestone in our efforts to secure the investment required from private investors.”
