Bouygues UK will drop the 19th century Thomas Vale brand from next month, four years after acquiring the Midlands-based firm.

The rebrand co-incides with the firm relocating its Midlands operations to a new Birmingham city centre office, with the loss of 12 jobs.

Bouygues said the phasing out of the brand was a “natural conclusion” after the takeover of the 700-strong firm in 2012.

Craig Tatton, Bouygues UK managing director for the North and Midlands said: “Thomas Vale’s investment in relocating to Birmingham builds on the work we have been doing with the Bouygues Group over the last two years to maximise the strengths of our combined businesses in the Midlands and the North.

“We have worked hard to increase our presence in these regions and this is reflected in the portfolio of high profile projects we are now undertaking in Birmingham and the West Midlands. All our staff were consulted about the move to Birmingham and 12 of them have chosen not to come with us.

“The UK continues to be a key strategic market for Bouygues Construction and the corporate strength, solid performance record and strong financial covenant of the organisation remains an important element of the Bouygues UK offer to its clients.”

The news follows a loss for Bouygues UK last year. The contractor reported a pre-tax loss of £19.4m which the company attributed to “ongoing challenging market conditions”.
