Helix - Essential Living, Make, Brookfield

Brookfield Multiplex has won a £90m job to build a Make-designed tower residential tower scheme in east London.

Specialist private rental developer Essential Living this week confirmed it had appointed Brookfield Multiplex as the main contractor for the Helix development in London’s docklands.

It is understood that the job is worth £90m.

The twin-tower scheme comprises 395 homes, with 329 solely for private rent.

Brookfield Multiplex was selected from Essential Living’s framework of contractors - revealed by Building this month.

Enabling works are set to begin later this year, with construction scheduled to start in early 2015.

Make Architects designed the original 29 and 35 storey towers, with the design adapted by Darling Associates.

EC Harris is project manager and Gleeds has been appointed cost consultant.

Ray Theakston, construction director at Essential Living, said: “Ensuring quality throughout the development process has been our top priority - we’re building and managing homes for long term-rent, and that means they have to still look and function perfectly ten years down the line.

“Brookfield Multiplex shares our values and objectives, and we’re extremely excited to be working with them on such a landmark project.”
