EDF has finished building electrical substation to supply energy to Olympic park and Stratford City

The first building on the Olympic park has been completed, the Olympic Delivery Authority confirmed today.

EDF Energy completed work on a new primary electrical substation to supply electricity to the Olympic park and the Stratford City development.

The substation, located in Kings Yard to the west of the Olympic park will distribute electricity across the park and Stratford City site, through new electrical networks. It is designed, constructed, owned and operated by EDF Energy.

Construction work began in December 2007. The building will start supplying electricity to the site next month.

Simon Wright, the ODA's director of utilities and infrastructure, described the completion as “a major milestone”.
