Practice says luxury development inspired by traditional Arab architecture

Foster & Partners has revealed images of its competition-winning proposals for a luxury hotel and serviced-apartment development in Mecca.

Senior executive partner Luke Fox said the project, which is earmarked for the heart of the Saudi Arabian city, also known as Makkah, uses a designed inspired by mountainous local terrain and featured cascading vertical elements.

He added: “Our design sets out to create an innovative building form that will be respectful to the scale and importance of the Grand Mosque.”

The scheme, designed for the Jabal Omar Development Company, will see every room equipped with a dedicated space for private prayer and direct views to the sacred buildings.
