Galliford Try has been chosen as preferred bidder to design and build a £26m ‘retirement village’ in Birmingham.

The 212 apartment scheme, for the Extra Care Charitable trust, will be built in the Bournville area and delivered by Galliford Try’s Partnerships business.

It includes community and care facilities and is expected to start on site in June with completion planned for the summer of 2015.

The retirement village is the fifth that Galliford Try have delivered for Extra Care, with the Hagley Road village, currently under construction in Birmingham, expected to be fully open in the autumn.

Galiford Try’s Partnerships business has also reached financial close on the 765 Finchley Road project on behalf of housing association Affinity Sutton.

The North London scheme will see the creation of 80 mixed tenure homes and commercial units under a £16 million contract.

Galliford Try chief executive Greg Fitzgerald said: “These two contracts demonstrate the excellence that our Partnerships business provides in the care and affordable housing sectors. We are delighted to be furthering our relationships with both Extra Care and Affinity Sutton and look forward to working with them to create the communities their customers deserve.”
