Westminster council approves Carmody Groarke design for commemorative sculpture in Hyde Park

A memorial to the victims of the 7/7 London bombings will be built in Hyde Park after getting the green light from Westminster council.

The project, designed by architect Carmody Groarke with artistic advice from sculptor Antony Gormley, will include 52 pillars to represent the 52 victims of the attacks in July 2005.

The pillars will be grouped in four clusters on the east side of the park, to represent the four attacks at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross and Tavistock Square.

Michael Brahams, chairman of the Westminster council committee that gave the scheme the go-ahead, said: “This is a fitting tribute - a bold and emotive sculpture which will ensure 7 July is never forgotten.”
