Former Olympic press centre being turned into tech and media hub

Grimshaw has been appointed to carry out interiors work at the former press and broadcast centre for the London 2012 Olympics.

The building, originally designed by Allies & Morrison, is being transformed into a technology and innovation centre with tenants including BT Sport and Loughborough University.

Called Here East, the 111,000sq m building was given approval back in 2014 by the London Legacy Development Corporation.

Grimshaw is working on an innovation centre at the scheme which will be run by technology firm Entiq – set up by Eric van der Kleij, the former head of financial technology firm Level 39 – and one of Here East’s two developers Delancey.

The innovation centre is due to open early next year

Running across 6,750sq m of ground floor and mezzanine space, the centre will provide a range of services to help companies with new product development, business growth and collaboration. The centre is due to be up and running by the beginning of next year.

Hawkins Brown is working on the overall Here East scheme, which was first called iCITY, and which is also being developed by data centre operator Infinity SDC.

The largest building at the Stratford site will be an 85,000sq m complex housing broadcast studios, office space and a data centre.
