Contractor to fit-out the college’s world-renowned chemistry department

Imperial College London Department of Chemistry

ISG has won the £61m fit-out of Imperial College London’s chemistry department at its White City campus in the west of the capital.

The department will occupy the campus’ Molecular Sciences Research Hub, a 10-storey 275,000sqft structure (pictured) being built by Laing O’Rourke.

The major contract helped ISG bag over £150m worth of deals last month. It has already begun work on site.

The firm developed the design and timetable for the fit-out with Imperial’s project manager Turner & Townsend.

The fit-out will see ISG deliver measuring, modelling and making labs across floors one to six, requiring the installation of 337 fume cupboards.

The building’s two basement levels will house specialist labs and a 250-seat lecture theatre.

Extensive structural reinforcement will also be required at basement level to enable ISG to install an advanced Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) suite.

A suite of laser and low electric noise laboratories will also be installed within the basement.

Work has started on site this month and when completed is set to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating.
