Swansea waterfront

Kier has won a contract to deliver the first phase of a £300m waterfront development in Swansea, Wales.

The £26m deal will see Kier oversee the design and build on the initial phase of University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s (UWTSD) Innovation Quarter, which will comprise the university’s Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Engineering as well as a new library.

Kier will be responsible for managing the detailed and technical design of the new buildings and also the construction process.

Construction work on the first phase of the project is expected to start in autumn 2016, and is scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the academic year in 2018.

Kier’s involvement is also expected to create 25 local jobs and 250 apprenticeships, with the contractor collaborating with the university to ensure community benefit as part of the deal.
