Ministry of Defence infrastructure arm awards contract for Stafford barracks
Contractor Lovell Partnerships has won a £51m job to build a barracks for the army in the Stafford.
The firm will build 346 homes for soldiers based at Beacon Barracks in Stafford.
Lend Lease was awarded the contract to carry out a £100m redevelopment of the main barracks on an adjacent site in October last year.
Stuart Gallacher, project manager at the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), the Ministry of Defence’s estate arm, said “providing good quality living accommodation” was a good way of supporting the troops and making them ready for operations.
He added: “We are pleased to announce the award of this contract to Lovell Partnerships Ltd and look forward to working together on this exciting project.”
David Gough, regional director for Lovell, said it was a “landmark project win” for Lovell.
He added: “The tendering process was extremely rigorous but I believe it allowed us to demonstrate the uncompromisingly high standards we always demand of ourselves. We are looking forward to getting started in the spring on providing these outstanding new homes for our Armed Forces personnel and their families.”
The project is due to start in the spring of 2014 and complete in summer 2015.
