Southwark council has confirmed L&Q as its development partner for the next phase of the massive Aylesbury estate regeneration project.

The council said it had now signed contracts with L&Q, which will be its new development partner for the next phase of the regeneration, Site 7, which is located on the corner of Thurlow Street and East Street.

L&Q was selected as the preferred bidder through a tender process.

“This next phase of development with L&Q will see more affordable, high-quality new homes for local people spring up as the project gathers pace,” the council said.

The council said demolition of the existing blocks is planned to begin in early 2013 and the new homes, which will be available for both existing Aylesbury tenants and leaseholders, will be completed by 2015.

Andy Rowland, L&Q’s land and projects director, said: “L&Q is delighted to be chosen as Southwark Council’s development partner for this next phase of regeneration for the Aylesbury Estate and to be providing high quality new homes for local people in the Borough.

“Following a previous public consultation about our proposals we now look forward to sharing our updated plans with residents and submitting a planning application to the council in the near future.”
