Firm joins Aecom and WSP as part of project team on 26-storey central London project
Mace is to be appointed construction manager on the third building in London Bridge designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Building has learned.
Shard Place, the second of the so-called Shardettes, will rise up to 26 storeys to provide 148 flats and 1,800m2 of retail space, as well as new public realm.
A source close to the project said the construction contract was in the region of £120m and that the gross development value for the tower from Real Estate Management (UK) Ltd (REM) – the joint venture between The State of Qatar, Qatar National Bank and the Sellar family - was around £300m.
Enabling works specialist Erith has completed the piling and basement structure for the scheme and is in the process of handing over the project.
The wider project team includes Aecom as project manager and quantity surveyor and WSP as the structural engineer.
Shard Place received planning permission from Southwark council in 2014 after Piano submitted a revised scheme following concerns from planners over the cladding, rooftop design, public realm and visual impact of the tower from Southwark Cathedral.
The new development replaces Fielden House, a 1950s office building on London Bridge Street next to The Shard.
Both Mace and REM declined to comment.
