Bids are invited for the construction of the Olympic sailing facilities at Weymouth and Portland

The Olympic Delivery Authority has invited bids for the construction of London 2012 sailing facilities at Weymouth and Portland.

Olympic and Paralympic sailing events will be hosted by the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and Osprey Quay in Dorset, but major renovation will be needed to make sure the venue is shipshape for 2012.

The contract is to build a new permanent 150m slipway, a new race-boat parking area and lifting facilities, and new race-boat moorings to be sheltered by a wave protection structure.

ODA chief executive David Higgins said: “This is an opportunity for a construction company to build world-class sailing facilities that will benefit elite athletes and the local community alike before, during and long after the Games.”
