After the shock election result this morning, we want to know how Building readers actually voted

As the consequences unfold from the unexpected election result that has led to a hung parliament, Building has launched an online poll to find how construction voted.

Last week we revealed our reader survey had come out in favour of voting for Jeremy Corbyn’s party, by a slim margin of nearly three percentage points.

The survey of over 1,000 readers, conducted from 19-25 May, found that just over 39% said they would vote Labour on 8 June, ahead of the Conservatives who secured 36.5% of the vote. The Liberal Democrats came in third place with close to 18%. The Greens had a score of just over 5%, while UKIP polled less than 1%.

This was in contrast to the vote share UK wide in the general election which gave 42.4% of the vote to the Tories, 40% to Labour, 7.4% to the Lib Dems, 3% to the SNP, 1.8% to UKIP and 1.6% to the Greens.

Support in the reader survey for Labour was driven by consultants, architects and construction professionals working for public bodies, whereas Tory support held up among contractors, subcontractors, housebuilders and manufacturers.
