Broadway Malyan-designed development will include offices, homes and leisure facilities
Broadway Malyan has unveiled plans for a £400m riverfront regeneration scheme that will provide city centre offices, homes and leisure facilities in Belfast.
The architect - whose projects include the Mann Island waterfront scheme in Liverpool - has done the masterplanning and urban design for the Sirocco Quays project in Belfast and will be taking the scheme to planning in the coming months.
Swinford (Sirocco) - the joint venture behind the scheme - said it expects to increase the population by 2.4% (1,615 residents) by 2035, create 5,300 jobs and 815 homes with the 16-acre site.
It also aims to include 69,000 square metres of contemporary office space along with leisure services including a hotel, restaurants and local retail space on land that from the 1880s housed the world’s largest rope works.
Philip Silk, director of the JV, said: “We are creating new construction jobs and will build modern workspace for approximately 11.5% of the 46,000 new jobs Belfast Council is seeking to create by 2035.”
Swinford - made up of the St Francis Group, Graftongate and Gulf Resources Development and Investment - will now start a minimum 12 week of pre-application community consultation before submitting a plan to Belfast Council.
The former industrial site, now derelict brownfield, was purchased by Swinford in August 2016 with completion in January this year.
