The Qatar Investment Authority and Brookfield Property Partners have made a joint approach “expressing an interest” in taking over Songbird Estates, the investment group that owns Canary Wharf Group.

Songbird issued a statement to investors this afternoon stating that it had received the approach.

The Qatar Investment Authority already owns 28.6% (211,746,156) ordinary shares in Songbird Estates.

Songbird said: “The board of Songbird will consider this approach in light of what is in the best interests of the shareholders in the company as a whole and in the meantime Songbird shareholders are advised to take no action.

“There can be no certainty that an offer for the company will be made.”
