Six architects involved in latest phase, with 10 new buildings planned
Plans masterminded by Chapman Taylor to expand Media City in Salford have been approved by the city council.
The second phase of work at the Peel Holdings scheme, where the BBC and ITV both have space, includes public spaces, offices, shops and residential along with a pedestrian promenade running through the site. It will feature 10 new buildings.
Six practices are working on this phase which has been given a development value of more than £1 billion.
Nearly three-quarters of this work is being given over to residential with Chapman Taylor behind a PRS scheme. The firm, which masterplanned this phase of work, is also designing new office space, apartments and an energy centre.
Other architects working on the scheme include former RIBA president Stephen Hodder’s practice Hodder & Partners which is behind new offices, apartments and parking space while Jeffrey Bell Architects is working on offices and apartments along with a public square and a market hall building.
Sheppard Robson has been appointed to design a 17-storey office block with 5plus working on a mix of retail leisure and apartments. AHR has designed two waterside residential plots.
Chapman Taylor was appointed in 2015 to draw up a masterplan for the 7.7ha site with construction scheduled to start in 2017.
