Lend Lease, Aspire and Queensberry in the running for major scheme

Sheffield retail

Sheffield City Council has shortlisted three developers - Lend Lease, Aspire Development Management and Queensberry Real Estate - for its long-awaited £480m retail quarter in the city centre.

The council said it will confirm a winner by March 2016. An outline planning application for the development was submitted last month, which will see the area between Barkers Pool, Pinstone Street and Charter Square transformed with new shops, offices, restaurants and flats.

Turner & Townsend is programme, project, cost and procurement manager on the project, while Leonard Design Architects is the architect.

The 900,000 sq ft scheme was shelved in 2008 in the teeth of the financial crisis and then the scheme’s original development partner Hammerson exited in summer 2013. Last year the council recommenced procurement for a development partner.
