Hotel operator unveils expansion plans

Travelodge has announced plans to build 150 new hotels over the next eight years, equating to 20 to 25 hotels opening each year.

Travelodge chief executive Peter Gowers made the announcement on a joint visit with chancellor George Osborne to Travelodge’s Birmingham Airport hotel.

Gowers said: “We see the potential for more than 150 further hotels across the UK and look forward to creating more great places to stay and thousands more jobs over the years ahead.”

Osborne said: “The expansion of a great British brand like Travelodge within a growing hotel and leisure industry in the UK, is fantastic news, which means thousands of new jobs and economic opportunities for people.”
