Wates has won a £80m batch of priority schools in east London, Building can reveal.

Building understands Wates has been appointed contractor on a capital-funded Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP) batch covering Barking, Dagenham and Newham.

It is also understood that Kier has been appointed to an additional £46m batch of schools in London.

Kier is understood to be the only contractor to have bid for the London 2 batch, which was formed after the schools were taken back from Bam Construction.

As Building revealed in May, the Education Funding Agency removed the schools from Bam after a failure to strike a deal over the price.

Elsewhere, it is understood that Galliford Try and Kier have been shortlisted for a batch of schools in Brent, worth around £60m.

The wins for Wates and Kier sees the two firms extend their lead at the top of the PSBP contractors’ league table, with Kier winning five batches and Wates winning four.
