Willmott Dixon Interiors has won the £20m fit-out contract for the Design Museum’s new home.

The year-long project will see the interiors division of Willmott Dixon transform the internal space of the former Commonwealth Institute. The Design Museum’s new interiors have been designed by John Pawson.

The grade II listed building will provide the Design Museum with 10,000m2 of space, three times more than its current location in Shad Thames

The work includes provision of new galleries with space to accommodate one permanent and two temporary exhibition areas, as well as modern learning spaces, a library, auditorium, office areas and a new restaurant.

Mike Hart, chief operating officer at Willmott Dixon Interiors said: “This is a high-profile and prestigious project that will see the Design Museum become one of London’s biggest attractions when we complete the fit-out, with over 500,000 visitors expected annually.”
