In a sector which is too often bereft of new ideas and imagination, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands shone through with buildings that have character, great light, and space.

The judges were particularly impressed with the Asticus building on a very restricted site next to listed buildings in a conservation area in London’s Victoria. Despite its spec office budget, the building shouts quality, while the piazza creates attractive public space, resolving the circular geometry of the building with the urban grid.

“This is proper design, done with integrity,” said the judges.

Also shortlisted: Allies and Morrison, Building Design Partnership and EPR Architects Limited.
