  • Comment on: Green Deal workshop for small builders

The Green Deal is a con cooked up by the triumverate of Ministerial talking heads, Shapps, Barker and Huhne. It is all hot air and hollow promises and there will be no real financial incentive provided to home owners to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels. Why? Because lobbying from the energy companies and the construction industry will scupper the radical upgrading of the Building Regulations to PassivHaus standards which is urgently required to force UK building contractors to build to completely different standards compared with their normal rubbish. If the Government were serious about green building there would be no VAT on insulation materials and mortgage/stamp duty discounts on eco-homes. Renewables are expensive and have a limited life. Insulation is cheap and lasts for ever

  • Comment on: Superglass profit warning after demand for insulation plummets

Why should we be surprised at this when we have a clueless Government that seems Hell-bent on destroying the construction industry and its associated professions? There is still 20% VAT on insulation and there are no incentives to build beyond our woefully inadequate Building Regulations. The FiT and RHI don't count as they just encourage spending on imported eco-bling to generate (?) energy rather than conserving it. Fabric First for goodness sake. When will we ever learn?
