Administrators say firm was crippled by public sector slowdown

Sheffield contractor CR Gibbs has gone into administration after being hit by a critical loss of public sector work.

All 49 staff at the firm have been made redundant.

The firm, which billed itself as a ‘public sector building contractor’ on its website, had worked for a number of public sector clients including the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield City Council.

John Russell and Chris White, partners at The P&A Partnership, have been called in as administrators.

Chris White said: “C R Gibbs & Sons is a well respected Sheffield business that has unfortunately been a casualty of both the downturn in the construction sector and cuts in the public sector. The majority of its contracts were within the public sector, including schools, universities and NHS Trusts.

“P&A have been offering support by assisting staff with claim forms for redundancy payments and other entitlements.”
