Six architects have been shortlisted for a role on the prestigious £720m revamp of the Palace of Westminster.

According to Building’s sister title Building Design, Allies & Morrison, Purcell, HLM and Donald Insall Associates are among those shortlisted.

It said architects Feilden & Mawson and FCB have been eliminated from the selection process.

As Building reported in June teams that submitted pre-qualification questionnaires also included architect HOK and consultants Deloitte, Aecom, CH2M Hill, Parsons Brinckerhoff, EC Harris and Gardiner & Theobald.

Today, Building Design reports Fielden Clegg Bradley, Capita, and Sheppard Robson also entered the competition at this stage.

Parliament’s estate arm is seeking a team to conduct a feasibility study into the refurbishment of the palace to bring the structure and facilities up to modern standards.

The eventual refurbishment programme will involve finding a way to keep Parliament operating while the upgrade work takes place.

One architect bidding for the job told Building Design: “This is only going to happen once every century or so. Who wouldn’t want to work on that building? If you aren’t interested, what are you doing in the profession?”
