Highways Agency hires joint-venture team also including Colas for road improvements in the East Midlands

Costain and Halcrow have won a £220m deal for road improvements in the East Midlands.

The joint venture, which also includes specialist contractor Colas, was awarded the five-year contract by the Highways Agency.

Under the deal, the firms will carry out routine maintenance services plus road works on motorways and trunk roads in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.

Costain chief executive Andrew Wyllie said: “The award of this important five-year contract reflects our continuing strategic focus on major blue-chip customers, and reinforces Costain's position as a leading player in the construction and maintenance of highways in the UK.”
